July – Newsletter

Bulk Plant –  We will be starting propane delivery at the end of July.  Our summer fill pricing is currently in effect and will be offered for the rest of the summer through August 31st.  Starting immediately, you will be able to lock in a price for your propane usage during the winter heating season from October 1st, 2010 to March 1st, 2011.  We will also contract dryer fuel for the harvest season and this too can be done immediately.  Another thing to note is that we will have 250, 500, or 1000 gallon propane tanks available for lease.  The same size tanks are also available to buy.  We will offer tank setting and pressure testing along with a complete line of regulators.  Also, a budget plan will be offered if you would like to spread your payments out over the full year.  Even though summer has just officially started according to the calendar, it is never too early to think about contracting your fall diesel needs.  Markets have strengthened over the past few weeks, so take this opportunity to fuel up.  We have also been notified about another lube oil increase, so this would be a good time to fill up for the fall as well.

Stations – Farmers Union Oil Company of Thief River Falls and Goodridge are pleased to announce the establishment of the Farmers Union Oil Scholarship.  The inaugural scholarship will be awarded to seniors in the graduating class of 2011.  The number of seniors receiving the scholarship will be based on a percentage of all gas sales at the pump at the 3rd and 8th Street Cenex locations in Thief River Falls, and Cenex in Goodridge.  Scholarships will be awarded in $1000 increments to graduating seniors of Thief River Falls and Goodridge who are furthering their education after high school.  To be eligible to apply, students must have a parent or grandparent who is a member of the Co-Op.  Farmers Union Oil Company is a members-owned cooperative, and you do not need to be actively involved in farming to be a member.  Show your support for local and area students by filling up at Cenex.  While you’re filling up, remember to check out the specials at the deli on 8th Street and also all of the food offerings we have at the Goodridge station.  Barbeque season is upon us so please stop at any of our three stations and have your small L.P. bottles filled.  July is when we plan on having the L.P. truck and plant up and running.  Please stop by and get our pricing, or see us if you would like us to provide a lease tank for you.  Our goal is to provide the best service at the lowest price and earn your propane business.

Shop -  Auto-Starts aren’t just for heating your car during the long winter months – they work just as well for cooling your car during the summer.  Come and check out our complete list of auto-starts, including a full line of Auto Page and Compustar remote start units, and we’ll match you with a unit that works best for your needs.  We would like to remind you that we also do cooling system flushes, so don’t forget to check the cooling system on your vehicle.  If you missed the tire sale last month, we remind you that we are a Cooper and Handkook tire dealer, and even though these are our primary brands, we can get any major brand of tire at a competitive price.  Also, don’t forget that we are a full service undercar center, and among other things, we offer four wheel alignments starting at $50. Jamey, Mike and Melroy want to let you know that we work on all makes of vehicles, both domestic and foreign.

Fertilizer –  As was mentioned in the last newsletter, we plan on having a customer appreciation grill out after the 4th of July.  The grill out will be held at the Goodridge fertilizer plant, and on the agenda will be the discussion of chemical application and micronutrient application.  Please come and enjoy a meal on us.  Even though June is coming to a close, there is still time to get fungicide on your wheat crops.  With the weather that we have had lately, there is a good chance of scab, so you will want to stay on top of this.  At the end of July, it will be time to check for aphids on soybean crops, and at that time it will also be time to spray micronutrients.  In looking at the small grains, we have noticed that the weeds too have definitely started to show up, so it is important to stay on top of this as well.  Please stop by and see Mishawn and Rick to talk about the chemicals needed and to schedule your appointment.

Big things continue to happen at your local cooperative, and we continue to plan for the future with many more ideas to grow your company.  If there is something that you would like to see us change or add, please talk to me or any of our board members.

Thank You – Scott Bergland
